8 weeks left until exams!

7th grade Fallacy Commercials

The 7th graders are getting ready to begin researching their persuasive speeches.  Last week they worked on Fallacies in advertising.  The above is a collection of their commercials.

9th grade Bible just finished presenting the worship services they planned. We have had 2 speakers so far and hopefully will have a few more from different denominations in the coming weeks.

The 8th graders have finished putting together their IE pieces and should be working on practicing and committing those to memory.  In class we are beginning to work through debate.

The Forensics team did well at the Saint James tournament.  We are now looking toward hosting our own tournament, Youth Judicial, and Twas the Night.  More information will be coming on those soon.

Week 5!

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day holiday.
We have jumped in with both feet this morning and have hit the ground running.

9th grade Bible:
We are working through some major questions in Christianity.  Today we tackled an overview of Is there an absolute truth?  And how do you prove God and Christianity are real? Big issues for the Tuesday after a holiday!  Great discussion was had. It may prompt some dinner table discussion at some point.
Be sure to check grades on Edmodo.  Everything is graded up to this point.  If something is not turned in, it needs to be before next Monday when edline will be updated again.

8th grade Intro to Forensics:
We are working on memorizing our Original Oratories.  These should be memorized by the end of next week.  We will take a couple of days in class this week to work on it, but then we will be moving on to other Individual Events and Debate.

7th grade Public Speaking:
Today we begin researching our informative speech and learning organizational patterns.  We should be finished writing our speeches by the end of next week.

High School Forensics:
The Novice tournament is NEXT week:  Sept. 17th.  We need to get pieces in binders this week and work on memorization.  The Samford tournament is the following week, and those debating need to start working on their cases if they haven't already.

This week

I am in the process of sending all the parents links to their student's Edmodo page.  Everyone should have them by Monday.  Also, grades will be updated on Edline by the end of the day on Monday.

9th Grade Bible:  So far this week we have looked at the Church Discipline and started examining those Christian symbols (the cross and the Bible).  There is a long term Bible project due at the end of September.

8th grade Intro to Forensics:  This week, we have finished up our Original Oratory and will begin practicing and memorizing next week. As soon as we have the OO down, then we will begin on other IE events.  Your student, beginning Sept. 1st will be required to find a news article and turn in a summary each week.  This will be a 10 point quiz grade each week for the rest of the semester.

Forensics:  Schedule have been released!  The 1st tournament is a Novice on Sept. 17 and then the Samford Tournament is the following weekend.  Students should start getting ready with their debate and IE pieces.

7th grade Public Speaking:  We will start research on their informative speech the middle of next week.  The students will choose their topic on Monday.

Have a great weekend!

A new year is here

Where in the world did the summer go?  I think time goes faster the older I get!  So, we are on the brink of a brand new school year.  Are you ready?  Ready or not, here we go!
There are big changes at TPS this year with the launch of our 1:1 program, the new lower school building, a new PreK4 program... change is in the air!

Here are a few changes I will be making in my classroom!  First... I have changed classrooms, back to what was built to be THE Forensics room!  Exciting times!!!  I can now be found in 308, next to the dance room!

In all my classes I will be using Edmodo for quizes, homework, and group collaboration.  You will learn more about this as the first week of class begins!

Here are a few things to keep in mind as you begin the year:
-Turn in your work on-time and complete - this goes a long way to help your grade
-all classes should be looked at as essential - you never know where you might find your gifts
-have fun and learn something new each day!

I am looking forward to this new year!  It is going to be exciting and full of learning!
